The history behind Cutthorpe

Just 3 miles from Chesterfield, and a short walk (or drive!) away from neighbouring villages Barlow and Old Brampton, Cutthorpe is a part of Brampton Parish Council and is home to many houses, halls and buildings both new and old.

Our two historic halls are The Old Manor House; once the property of the Sitwell family, built in 1625 by Robert Clarke, the first Mayor of Chesterfield, and Cutthorpe Hall; built in 1675 and the former residence of the famed Heathcote family!

Many of the houses in Cutthorpe have a name but no number – confusing for visitors and delivery people alike!

A local villager, Pete Stott, has thankfully stepped up to the mark and put together a map with the house names on – so if you have a query you can check here

Copies of this map are also placed in the Book Swap Phone Box.

Our village newsletter

A newsletter is produced every 3 months and distributed to all village residents, and members of the Cutthorpe Charity who live elsewhere, to keep them informed about what’s happening in the village.
